About The Low Five Photography

The Low Five is the Internet home of Atlanta-based photographer Steven Ricard. I work with both film and digital cameras. My primary cameras at the moment are a Canon Rebel T1i DSLR and a Minolta X-570 film camera, however, I have also been known to use pinholes, toy cameras, 1950s box cameras, and anything else I can get my hands on.

For information about my work or to schedule services, feel free to call me at 404.969.LOW5 (5695). Please use the Contact page to send me an email or to find additional ways that you can get in touch with me and/or find my work on the web.

About

Although I’ve been doing photography for over a decade, I’ve only gotten really serious about it for the last year or so.  I’ll be the first to admit that during the early parts of my photography career, I was one of those people that thought that all you had to do was be able to point a camera to be a good photographer, and somehow that was enough to get me through. It may come as a surprise, but during those early years, I was actually quite successful.  I was the editor in chief for a local web publication, photography editor for a college newspaper, and a freelancer for a national retailer.  In addition to these things, I also had my own personal clients, photographing everything from family portraits and conferences to political rallies and nationally televised sporting events.

I’m happy to say that I’ve come a long way from those early days.  With the onslaught of digital photography and the fact that there are so many people out there now that have the exact same mindset that I did back then, I’ve come to realize the importance of learning, understanding and embracing the techniques of truly great photography and the people that create it.  Originally, my goal for this website was to chronicle my adventures in life and various photography related tutorials I’ve tested out, but I’ve now shifted that goal in order to demonstrate more prominently the things that I have learned and continue to learn about creating quality photography.

To that end, I’m interested in pursuing every opportunity that I can in order to learn and enhance my skills.  Throughout this site, you will see photos taken with a range of different cameras, including homemade pinholes, toy models, 1950′s era box cameras, standard 35 mm film cameras, and, of course, the latest digital models.

When I’m not doing something related to photography, I’m either spending time with my family or working in the nonprofit industry serving those with disabilities.

Steven
